VitrA, the first brand in the Turkish ceramics sector to win the "European Union Eco-Label" for its tiles in 2011, is now the holder of two new environmental-impact evaluation certifications.
The porcelain tiles produced by VitrA Karo in Bozyüyük and Tuzla have proved their "environment-friendly" quality and have earned the right to receive the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). The five-year certificate was granted by the German Institut Bauen und Umwelt e.V., the enterprise that performed the life-cycle analysis on VitrA porcelain tiles in line with the ISO 14040/44 standard. The certification process involved the evaluation of all environmental impacts created by the manufacture of the porcelain tiles, from the raw material stage to final waste management.
VitrA Karo has also applied to the product certification program of the non-profit independent organization, the Greenguard Environmental Institute (GEI). The evaluations of the GEI verified that VitrA's 7 different tile series--Arkitekt porcelain floor tiles, Arkitekt Color wall and floor tiles, mosaic tiles, residential porcelain, bath and floor tiles--were worthy of Greenguard and Greenguard Gold certification as of April 2013.
